I used the 180 here in Jersey last winter and had great heat, it only ran a tick cooler though. I just changed to a 160 this weekend when I did my efans, so I can't really report on how it reacts in the cold with these trucks. Guess I'll find out in December. When I had my 85 Monte (carbureted small block 350...threw the 305 away), I always used a 160 year round and had no problems with heat at all...actually the heat came up real fast...I'm assuming since the t-stat opened sooner and it flowed sooner, I got heat sooner.

Just realized that I didn't adress the "doesn't it matter" part of the question...the stock stat vs. 160 stat debate seems to be never-ending. I feel that if you can get it to run a little cooler, you can run more timing before pinging, and get more power. You don't want it too cool though, as this will have a negative affect on the oil (not allowing moisture to burn off, etc.), and cause sludge. Plus, colder oil will stay physically thicker and cause drag on the rotating assembly and rob power (but how much really) You kinda want it just right. I'm pretty confident with using Mobil1 and going with the colder stat...but I guess only time will tell. Hopefully someone in a frigid region with a 160 stat will chime in.

There's a nice slightly used cat-back exhaust on the parts trader-
Here

With intake, exhaust, e-fans I've picked up a solid 1.5mpg city. And the truck is much quicker than stock.

I get 11.5 but I need to melt some of the lead off my foot. Since I got my stall I cant keep my foot out of it something about spinning all the way through first gear that gets me. Its hell on tires though. I would highly recommend getting a stall its alot of fun
