Yes, you read that right, I want to tone down my exhaust. Right now I'm running a Hooker Aerochamber with 3" mandrel bent pipe from the Y-pipe back, with it dumped after the axle. This is on my new 06 crew cab, short bed with the 5.3 and 3.73 rearend. As it is, it's just a little too much in the cab for the wife and 9 month old son- I think it's fine. Deep and mellow at cruise, real nice at WOT and nearly silent on the highway. It's just that I get a real deep tone thru the cab at certain RPM. I'm interested in a set-up with an overall mild to moderate tone and was wondering if this is only possible with one of the larger Magnaflows. I refuse to put the stock muffler back in as i like the added flow. Any help would be appreciated, and I'll be selling the Hooker as soon as my set-up is changed.

I run one of those larger "straight thru" Magnaflows on my '01. The place that did my exhaust told me it was the "quietest" loud muffler they had. Sounds nice and no in cab noise.
Run a Gibson on my 98 GMC and it is pretty mellow with no cab noise either.

What I did on my Avalanche was put two Magnaflow mufflers in series and it ended up quieter than stock (which is what I was after), but with much better performance (straight-through design). One 5 x 8 can followed by a 5 x 11 can. You can probably do the same on a crew cab, there is probably the same type of room under there.
I was infinitely happy with this setup, and the new owner was overjoyed with it as well. He likes the sleeper aspect of a vehicle with a blower and zero exhaust noise. To top it off, the entire setup cost me about $225; $65 for each of the mufflers and ~$100 to have them welded in.
If you want to keep your stock exhaust tip then you can go with single 3" in, single 3" out and the sound will be similar. I already had dual tailpipes left over from my Flowmaster install, so I kept them.
Here's how my setup looked:
