I have a cam spring package on the way from TSP 220/220 581/581 and custom tune, custom 3 inch exhaust, flowtech 1 5/8 headers, airaid MIT and possibly some ported 98 ls1 heads to come soon. Will this get me any \were near 350rwhp, are hand ported heads worth the truoble.

 

Nope. I have a built 4.8l (forged pistions, rods, heads,ect). And I am hoping for 300rwhp before I put the turbo on. I think that you will make around 300rwhp but not 350. get a cut-out, some AFR heads and a 224/224 cam and then you will be getting close. I know where you can pick up a cam for cheap to

 

Is the 4.8 that much harder to pull hp out of than the 5.3? My friend put in a small cam in his 5.3 with shorty headers and gutted cats and a mail in tune and made 307 rwhp. With a bigger cam, dyno tune and heads 350 would be possible. I know the 4.8 is a little smaller, i just didnt know it would be that big of a difference.

 

actually i just re-read the thread and I think i misunderstood some. As others have said, with the cam you have and if you do heads and a good tune you should be around 330 maybe more. I would do the cam and headers and use the head money to get a tb stall and a cheap little nitrous setup.
