I have a buddy in the dealer service dept, so it was free. I'm not the only SS owner that had this happen with LS1 edit. I think someone else on here had to pay to get it reflashed.

I asked Ken from Carputing last month. He said he just finished up the car 04 version and was planning on getting back to work on the 03 truck programming.

You wont need new hardware when they fix it. I still have my original Edit cable. When they fix it, the programmer executable will get updated with a newer version.

Technically, they are getting extra data transferred over the PCM bus that they don't know where its coming from and cant program into the software. The 03-04 trucks and SUVs with the fancy cluster and radio units are connected to the PCM data bus. When mine locked up doing an in-truck load, my radio flickered a little, then started binging like the doors were open.

Here is what ken told me when I asked last:

Richard,

We took about 6 weeks off this problem to get out the 2004 support, so Made no progress on In truck programming, The solution is not as simple as pulling a fuse. I even went under the dash and disconnected a bunch of stuff, and still had it fail. I'm beginning to think it is a change in the security system, That is the only processor that I can't disconnect from the bus.

That makes sense now .. I guess now it's just a matter of figuring out what else is going on. I did notice, when I replaced the CD player, that the factory radio plays a part in the whole damn truck. From the way several different stereo shops explained it, the truck wouldn't work right without it in there some how. That being the reason I had to buy a $75 cable with a T-harness on it to hook the factory one up to.

Anyways .. I wonder if they have actually made any progress into it yet? Hopefully they will answer my email with more than we are working on it.

I had to do the same thing when I had my stereo installed, buy that $75 dollar cable. My truck is basicly a stripper. It cam with an AM/FM radio, no CD. I'm wondering if what they have for 03's now would lock up my factory PCM. Guess I'll have to wait for the in truck version.

I got a response from CarPuting ...

Hi Nathan,
We are continuing to work on them. We are not yet in beta testing.

Thanks,
Dave @ carputing.com
Pretty vague I think ...

Bruce .. from the sounds of it, they aren't giving ANY support for the 03's yet.

Edit does work on '03 trucks.
You do need the benchtop programming cable. But, other than the extra cost of the cable, its not a big deal. Takes about 2 minutes to take the PCM out from under the hood. Its just programming 'in-garage' instead of 'in-car'. I plug my laptop in the shop bench and power the PCM from the truck battery to avoid grounding issues.

I'd say that Carputing is supporting Edit on the '03 trucks. The software fully functional as far as I can tell. They specifically state that '03-'04 trucks must use the benchtop cable until further bugs are fixed. So the software works fine, its just the ability to interface to the PCM through the under-dash connector that is the problem. Like BigTex said, when the PCM is still hooked up to the truck it gets data bus signals that can screw up your programming.

TM sucks!
Edit rocks!

Thanks for the reply Deezel. I don't have any mods on my truck so far, except UPD, so I can wait a bit for the intruck version. Once it's released, let the modding begin.
