Question hypertech questons

Just got my hypertech, what would be the best options for me to tune into my ECU? Where should I set the rev limiter, shift points? Also would it be better to tune it to run on 93 octane intead of 87? I let it do whatever magic it works and then I firmed up the shifts, but left all the other stuff alone for the moment. Thanx in advance guys.

Some will say max out the shifts but I didn't when I had mine. I set the 1-2 shift for +3, 2-3 for +11 and the 3-OD shift stock, will hit speed limiter by then. Use the 93 tuning, rev limiter maxed out, top speed at what ever your tires are rated for and firmer shifts. My 00 truck shifted from 1-2 at 5600 but the 2-3 shift was only 5200 stock, the biggest difference I felt with the HPP was carrying the 2-3 shift up to 5948 which was the +11 setting, the +3 setting for the 1-2 shift was 5984. Use the rearend gear chart to figure out where to set the shifts, I liked to keep mine just under 6K rpm's which was +3 & +11, my truck had 3.73 gears.

Do a search in this forum. There were some other guys with 4.8s that posted up their settings. I remember setting the rev limit to 6200, 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift at max, and the 3-4 shift was at +5. I used the 93 octane tune and with a 3.73 gear I was getting 18 mpg with my foot in it. My little 4.8 was giving those Hemis all they wanted!

Thanx guys, I gotta burn the rest of my gas off so I can put in 93 instead of 89. Then I will start with the suggestions you gave. Hopefully tomorrow.

Okay, I set the rev limiter to 5,900, 1st +3, 2nd +8. I took it out and it hit the rev limter before going into 2nd. So I bumped it up to 6,000. It runs good as far as I can tell. What do you all think about it?

I'd raise the rev limiter to 6200 just to make sure you don't hit it.

Is it safe to raise the rev limiter that high? Will it eventually screw something up? I'm not a genius when it comes to engines so an explanation would be great. Thanx.
