Default Hypertech Programmer: Any Real Performance Gains w/ 87 octane?

Well ... I'm seriously considering a Hypertech. The truck is bone stock with a Flowmaster. I was racing a Hemi extended cab w/ exhaust on the freeway and when I hit 100mph my truck took a nose-dive... DAMN SPEED GOVERNOR!!! The Hemi blew by me like nothing.

Are there any REAL performance gains to be had from the Hypertech besides tranny firmness, configuring wheel/ tire sizes, and removing the top speed governor??

i think for around the same price of a hypertech you can get a custom tune. nelson offers a damn good one at that.

Call Allen Nelson and don't waste the time and money on the HT. Or i could sell you my old Predator and have it reflashed for $75.

If you do the hypertech. It will give you a bunch of option on what tuning you want to install. one of the options is power tuning. If you install that you will be required to run High test. But you could remove the speed govenor, firm up the shift, change the fan on/off times, recal the speedo for different tires and such without the need for high test.

I experienced no discernable gain from using the HPP-III 87 tune, other than lots of pinging at WOT. Apparently Hypertech isn't able to get much more than the factory tune with their 87 tune. I asked for dyno charts for my 03 and they only showed a 3 hp gain with the 87 tune and a 7 hp gain with the 93 tune. I only ran it for a few months before getting a custom tune. Definately a waste of $300.

Quality information ...

I'm going to borrow my buddy's to remove the speed governor and configure the truck for my different wheels/ tires. I won't program it for the 87 octane power tune ... 3hp!? Seems non-sensical ...

Default programmers

You cant share hypertechs...they are locked to a VIN number. That is if your buddy used the programmer to make any changes to his truck it will not program anyone elses vehicle untill he uninstalls the program from his truck.

ps...the power programmer tunning in my 00 Camaro SS picked up over a 10th in the 1/4...John

If you want a hand held programmer, the way to go would either be a superchips or a diablo programmer, I would not even consider the hypertech.

yea, I didn't know that the Hypertech was locked in with the VIN. I was thinking about borrowing one from a friend ...
