Hypertech and Other Chips
#1
I was just wondering about chips avalible out there... With the programmer I know it is good for shifting points but does it do anything else. Are there aftermarket chips that give your truck an extra 40 to more HP, and is it OK for the Block...
I also heard the evey mod you put in your truck such as CAM, Exhaust, Headers, K&N filter... Etc it's a good idea to get it programmed into your computer. if this is true where can you get this done and how if you wanna do it yourself. Thanks Jonny H
Silverado small Cab, Short box, Stepsidse, Dynomax Ultra Flo muffler. 5.3

As far as I know, there aren't any chips for the new style trucks (5.3, 4.8, etc), just several programmers. I have a Hypertech and like it, I'm only using the raised shift points now. With the other mods I have, my truck actually runs stronger with out the Hypertech programming installed. The Hypertech has two performance programs (87 or 93 gas), shift points, shift firmness, you can change tire sizes or rear end gears and correct your speedometer as well. AS far as mods, DON'T open up the intake or exhaust to much, you'll loose power instead of gaining it.
I'm using the stock air box, I did the ram-air mod to it and it works great. I also use a Purolator paper filter, I actually loose performance with a K&N. The stock exhaust isn't as bad as everyone may think, most people post after having their exhaust done that they've lost low end torque. If you do the exhaust, keep the stock pipe and just change the muffler. Try and get a muffler thats as long as the stock one so you don't loose low end. Remember, just because you make your exhaust louder doosn't mean your making more power. After trying a bunch of aftermarket mufflers and various pipe combinations, I've gone back to a stock set up. It's off of a Tahoe, but it stock, the Tahoe has a 3" tailpipe stock, and the muffler must flow pretty good. My truck is actually quicker with it on than it was with the Flowmaster muffler I had. Sorry for this being so long winded but I've tried a bunch of stuff, some work and some don't. I would do the ram-air mod and keep the stock intake, only replace the muffler (Magnaflow is a very good choice) and get a programmer of some kind. These are good places to start.

we have a super charged truck here in town running 12s that dynoed his truck and the hypertech gave him 30 horses at the wheels .
i don't know if the gain is the same for a truck without a supercharger but 30 horses is well worth it.
