I had the same thing happen to me, but I actually blew an inch diameter hole right out of the bottom of the differential housing If it is still drivable then it is quite possibly the spider gears, or even the actual ring. I have broken every component in there including the eaton spider gears on mine at least once. If it is the spider gears just remove the unit like Big Tex said if you are trading it in.

This isn't one of the times you wound up in a ditch is it?

Can the tooth be welded for a band-aid fix?

Is the tooth missing leaving enough of a gap that it will miss the space and spin like in neutral?

sounds like you granaded the gov loc, from what i've heard this is common. gm's safety feature of having the locker violently unlock over 25 mph is ridiculous and costs alot of people alot of money. when i lifted and changed gears my shop suggested i get rid of it, i was sceptical but i trust them, and i'm glad i did. i went with the high end [stronger, heavier spring] limited slip, burns both tires on pavement. they told me if the stocker granades it can take the spiders and in some cases the ring and pinion with it. if it still drives you may be ok but i'd get it looked at right away, if there are stray parts floating in there it's only a matter of time before they get stuck in the gears and blow the whole thing. if it's only the locker your looking at $400 + for a new l.s or locker + labor.
