and my gauge is a 6.8 to7.8 gauge..so that would mean that screwed all the way down, it would be a 6.8'' length..then every full rotation id add .50'' to 6.8. how would i set it up to measure? put #1 piston to TDC, install the gauge, torque rocker down and adjust the gauge until theres no up and down motion, just can be able to spin it with slight drag?? just a guess.

Your on the right track. You will want to get it close before you tighten the rocker down. If its all the way down you won't be able to open the tool up when its installed.

You may not be able to roate and open the tool at all once its installed. I forgot on theses motors. IIRC I had to get it close and do 1/2 turns untill I got the slop out and then another 1/2 turn to get preload.

Excellent follow up!!! That's a good example of the basic break down.

There's nothing to do physically, you add the preload to the zero lash measurement to arrive at the total PR length.
