Default How to remove stock Y pipe?

I'm going to swap in headers but I don't want to destroy the stock Y-pipe.

Is there a way to remove the stock Y pipe from a 04 Silvy ECSB 2WD without cutting it? Do I have to drop the tranny X-member, and if so, how hard is it to remove so I can get the Y-pipe out? I do have tools and a tranny jack.

It unbolts at the exhaust manifolds and also right before the muffler ...make sure you spray all bolts with some kind of lubricant and let sit over night to avoid breaking bolts

Step 1: Remove y-pipe.

That's it. It's simple.

Driver side manifold y pipe bolts on mine was so tight, that My 360ft lb impact broke 2 swivels and split a socket trying to get them all loose.
Ended up cutting the pipe be low the cat and sliding it out as a assembly.

It ended up taking a closed end wrench and 3 hits with a sledge hammer to break the last one loose.

Support trans with the pos bottle jack from behind your seat and remove the cross member. Its far simpler to work the exhaust like that.

Good luck.

I know the bolts will come loose since I did a motor swap a couple of months ago. I noticed at the time that the Y pipe would. not. come. out. because it was trapped behind the tranny X member. Do I need to put the truck on jackstands to get enough height to slide the Y-pipe out?

Yeah, just put the jack stand on the frame to get the tires maybe 1in off the ground and that will give you enough room to swing the crossmember down aswell as enough room for you to fit under there.

Get all the bolts free and let the the Y-pipe just kinda hang there with 1 nut holding the drivers side up, then place the jack under the transmission. Remove the transmount bolts. Remove all 4 nuts holding the crossmember bolts in place, then remove only 3 of the bolts. Leave the far left bolt on the drivers side in place and just swing the crossmember down to the ground and sneak the y-pipe out.

Pretty simple really, then swing it back into place and install the rest of your exhaust.
