This is my situation:
I have a 2002 Silverado RCSB with a v6 in it. I want to do a full swap to a 5.3 or possibly a 6.0. How much work is involved in this swap? With the 5.3, would I be able to use my old transmission, ac pump, power steering, etc? If so, how much would it cost to get someone to do all this for me? I have seen places where I can get a 5.3 for $600 or less, but I am wondering how many more expenses there are to get the thing into my truck. Anyone who has done a swap like this, any pics or info would be greatly appreciated.

 

for a price i do not have a clue but to change from a six to 5.3 find a wreck get the motor from a full rig. once you buy just a motor to do the swap then some thing does not match you will find that you spend less getting a complete donor. thats what we did with a 93 chevy cheyenne rcswb. took the the six out put a 5.3 from a rolled tahoe in it we used the body control module ignition switch and harness along with ecm and engine but the 4l60e fit to it

 

Probably best to sell it and buy one with a V8.

So its harder to swap from a v6 to a 5.3 than it is to go from a 5.3 to a 6.0, or a 4.8 to 6.0? If so, that sucks. Im tired of the v6

 

I'm not very familiar with the V6s in the 99+ trucks, but I'm pretty sure they are still based off the old small block chevy. Not the new GEN3 LS1 design like the 4.8 5.3 and 6.0. So, acessories and wiring would probably be considerably different. A 5.3 to 6.0 would be easier.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but your first post stated "how much would it cost to get someone to do all this for me?". Finding a good mechanic to do this swap, plus the parts isn't going to be cheap or easy. IMO if you don't have the knowledge to do this yourself, then your better off selling your truck and buying one with a V8.

 

yeah if your not doing the work sell it and get what you want insurance on a 5.3 is not much higher than on v6

 

switching the v6 to a v8 in the new body style you would have to come up with a complete engine, wiring harness, accessories and what not plus work all the kinks out. You will have to pay someone alot of money to do this for you and their will most likely still be problems or quirks in it. I would really suggest you go get a 4.8 chevy with a alot of miles cheap probably around 7-8k and drop a 6.0 which will cost $1000 for the engine and probably about another $1000 to install it. jsut don't waste your money on trying to swap out the v6.
