ok, i'm jumping on the bandwagon. going to have allen tune my truck too get rid of the whipple craptronics. he has'nt done it yet and i was wondering, should i up the boost [ smaller pulley ] and have him tune for it ? how much can i go with no intercooler on a daily driver/tow vehicle ? 7 psi ? what size pulley on a single belt ? i'm at 5 psi now. thanks e

somewhere between 6 and 7psi was the best i could do on pump gas. if i were doing the whipple set up again i would skip the step you are talking about and go strait for a small shot of nitrous OR alcohol injection.

with alcohol you could probably get up into the 8-11psi range and hopefully still feel some of that power on a warm day.

i really dont know much about alcohol but have head alot of raves about it. one local buick guy was telling me in the buick world the only thing better than alcohol is C16fuel($8/gal). he said the alcohol works better than 118octane fuel, not sure what is so special about c16, it must be prety special.

I would think you could run an extra 1 to 2 pounds of boost no problem if you drop the whipple comp and go with bigger injectors. I hit 10 psi on the dyno with my old setup and had no KR or detonation. I did NOT have my alky kit on either. going from 5 to 7 pounds should not be a problem.

On the pully size...every 1/8 inch smaller in diameter is good for 1 pound of boost.

thanks for the replies guys, i'll ask allen about the pulley and the tune for it. is the 2 lbs going to help much ? estimated gain ? how about the extra wear/on the compressor, any thing to worry about there ? this is a daily driver/tow vehicle don't want to go too "race" on it. last night i was next to an '02 bmw 740il, i was in the merge lane, light turned he hit it, so did i, at the merge [ about 450ft] he was just ahead of me, had to back off, kinda irked me, i know stock he's pushing 300 hp with a better power/weight ratio but, maybe with a couple extra pounds of boost and a tune, he'll be the one backing off next time. guess i should'nt be too upset, lifted 4x , crew on 35's, at least he did'nt embarrass me.

You should notice the extra power of 2 pounds of boost. It should be somewhere around 30-40 more hp. Not to mention, just a good tune with the right sized injectors
will make a big difference as well.

i've got 42lb inj's with the aux disconnected. still got a bug up my a$$ to use those aux inj's for alc inj. how would you do a return line to the aux tank ? or do they make a pump that senses pressure and shuts off like a compressor. also would need some sort of adj fpr, i would think. anyone know of a source of pictures/setups for alc inj ?

Here is a link to a pump that has a pressure switch that allows the pump to come on at 85psi then turn off at 100psi but I am not sure if the diaphram is compatible with alcohol. Last week I just had an alc inj kit installed on my truck & I am currently testing it to see what settings run the best. I am running around 8.5 psi and the alc inj I am using is the SMC kit and I plan on getting a smaller pulley to get my boost to around 9-10psi so I can scare a couple of camaros.
