I think it depends on usage. As in... if you beat the heck out of the truck it can be a wide range 10,000 miles might be too much if it is really badly abused. I think you'll see a lot of different answers. As your truck is three years old and stock it is probably a good candidate as it is. Do you have any warning signs that failure of the engine or trans is coming?

a compression check is a good starting point.

your probably just fine, ask your self some basic questions? do you burn oil? if so, how much? when you do your oil changes are they clean? dirty? lots of metal? send in your oil for analysis. Does it make any funny noises? do you have any leaks?

basic questions like these will give you a good idea of what you should and should not do to it.

Yep, not all miles are created ( or attained ) equal. The GenIII motors are very strong and will last a long time with even basic care. Now the 4L60E tranny is quite another story.....I would loose more sleep over it than the motor.

i added my supercharger with 102000 on the motor, no oil burining, no leaks, no huge amount of blow by, still running strong, im at 116000 now and hoping for 185000 before it go's.

then it is time for a 6.0

i feel as i could add a blower to my engine any day. it has 114000 on in and i too don't get any oil burning or loss. then again, i have taken care of my motor and don't beat the **** out of it at every stop sign. i guess my answer would be the current condition of the engine. if it's poor, then no.
