Default How many had there headers welded up?

I just got under the truck and saw that the retard that installed my thorley headers welded them to the cats!! Since Im going to have to take a sawzall to it anyway, should I just go ahead and get a new Y pipe? What kind or brand is going to match up with the least amount of work?? Why cant anything I pay for be done right??

Please clarify, most mid and lt headers have an adaptor that gets welded to the front end of the cats but have a joint or flange ahead of that so you can seperate the headers from the exhaust system, is there a joint there or did the nutbar weld the header direct to the cats.
if he did you will probably need to get a used cat assembly, I don't think you can buy a pipe to work. A good muffler shop may be able to do something else but it's hard to say without seeing it.

good luck, dave

Get them to pay for a new set of headers thats what I would do. Why not just go ahead and get true duals.

He welded the collector directly to the cats. It looks like total **** and has weld beads that look like hanging boogers.
I swear I will never let anyone touch my truck again.
I dont trust this retard with my truck again. Ive got too much money invested. Im sure I can saw them off and weld on a new flange and then get some kind of after market Y pipe to work. I will definately not be able to resell the headers though. They look like ****!!

I've found it isn't too hard to fab your own y-pipe from mandrel bends and straight tubing from summit if you can mig weld. It just sucks laying on the ground with the truck on 4x4 wood boosting the jackstands. If I had a lift I'd do all my own exhaust on all my vehicles. I did it twice on the vette and once on my old truck. No one near me fabs well or uses mandrel bends!

Did the collector have flanges or were they tubes? Did you ask them to install flanges?

There were flanges in the box. I bought them seperately. I never "told" them to install them I just figured it would be understood. Either way I dont think its too much of a big deal. I just need some practice with the welder

Can you just cut the welded area out and add flanges? If the ones you have wont work, hope about these?

Personally I prefer these anyway over any kind of flange.. No gasket... No rings and NO LEAKS!

Where did you find those? I guess I need to go measure the colector unless anyone happens to know what size the collector is on the Thorleys....? Ya Im planning on cutting it all up and welding flanges and doing a new 3" Y pipe. I just need to familiarize myself with my welder that is still in the box wrapped in plastic
