Default How to install dowel pins in block head?

I searched, surprisingly only found videos and posts on how to remove em if theyre stuck. One of my dowels came out when i pulled the old head gasket off. Doesnt seem to want to go back in easily. Figured id ask here is there a proper was to install the dowel back in? Its a 2013 LC9 5.3

Big chamfer side "UP"

Tap it in with a brass mallet, or since youre not likely to have one, a rubber mallet will do it too, but will suffer damage

You can you a ball peen and a brass blivet to do it too. Don't hit the dowel with anything hard. Soft materials only, it'll pop back in

Had this happen to me, used a rubber mallet but bought new dowel pins. I think I had lost them in the head

They're a VERY LIGHT press fit. Might be able to push em in with your finger.

I usually use a BFH, very gently, padded with a block of wood. Hardly even takes a tap, let alone a whap or a full beatdown.

5# hammer and get at it.
Just kidding.
Clean any crud off the outside of the dowel and use something to lightly tap it in, you will know when it bottoms out.
