How to get truck in 14s
#1
Hey Guys I have a 2003 gmc sierra 5.3 EC Z71. It is lowered 4 inches and My mods are electric fans, asp pully, Predator, ram air into stock box, LT headers with no cats and true dual with two cutouts. I am running with drag radials on the rear so traction isn't a factor. My 60's are all at 2.23-2.30. The Best time is a 15.10 @90.24. How can I get into the 14 second range, What should I do next. I am From Kansas and the 3 times I have raced the da has been around 3500 ft. Please let me know what to do. Thanks

Your truck seems kinda fast for that DA. I didn't get down into that range in my truck till I had a stall and all those mods. Is it stock weight also?
As for how to get into the 14s.. Get a TT3000 and a good cam. I went a best of 14.29@97mph 2.0 60' with your mods except I didn't have a pulley. I had a 226 cam and great tuning though.

yeah a stall would take off quite a big chuck or you could go for a cam it doesnt have to be big like the zo6 cam is a great one doesnt require any special programming and will run like stock till it gets in range the will pull like an oxe but even a small converter or trailblazer converter (for better mileage) will probably easily shave that tenth off your time good luck let us know how it works out

Well I used to have westers then nelsons, Predator is alot better in my opinion. You can take it to the track and turn up or down your timeing and fuel for conditions. Predator easily knocked off about a tenth or so more then westers or nelson. As far as my truck running good numbers at that Da. The tire size I am running are 26 inches tall that helps. And I had no back seat no tailgate no spare tire and I only weigh 145 lbs. The truck with me in it weighs about 4850 race weight. I was considering a stall but everyone I know putting down the horsepower I am are going through transmissions fast and I don't want to do that. I don't think the 60e can hold my power. My last dyno was 287hp and 306 tq. thanks

My trans held up just fine with the stall and shift kit and I was at 4900lb race weight and about 320rwhp (dyno'd 304rwhp before tuning the new cam then picked up 2mph afterwards). My trans didn't start to go out on me till after the turbo install and the gobs of power that came with it.
I can see how your times are so good now. You did some serious weight reduction and like me, you are skinny :p 26" tires help also. I used the stock 29.5" tall tires and just ran the truck in 2nd gear and never had to touch 3rd till I got the turbo. Once I started trapping 97mph though I had to ring the crap out of the motor and spin to about 6700rpm to keep it out of 3rd. LOL

i would not be worried about that amount of horsepower on a 60e i know some one putting 700 hp and 800 tq through a 408 and his is working well no shift kit or servos though that will definately add strain and shorten the life of tranny and also tranny coolers work wonders
