You need a tune, for sure. Go with the wait4meperformance one, and possibly some kind of converter. Maybe even a trailblazer converter. Just get an intake that has the better cone filter, and open airbox. The factory tube seems to work the best out of all of them. Make sure your filter gets lots of air from the front, behind the pass. side headlight. You could even remove the headlight for more air.

14's are easy in a regular cab 5.3

My 03 went 15.0 bone stock

With E-fans home made intake and a cut-out it went 14.8

I then added a cat-back (No improvement from the cut-out) and custom tuned the truck on a dyno using a Diablo programmer and the truck went 14.5 full weight + stereo on 20" wheels.(It was dynoing 285rwhp 315rwtq)

With headers a retune and a yank 3000 that truck would have gone high 13's on 20's easy.

Electric fans. You can get some cheap ones off the 93-97 lt1s or 98-02 ls1 f-bodys from a local auto salvage. Improves throttle responce significantly. A must do mod. A good price for some used e-fans would be around $100. You will need a harness to wire them to your truck though. Nelson Performance carries a very nice harness. *If you get some used fbody fans, make sure they have the pigtails on.*

Or you can always go for some nice FAL or Permacool ones but they will set your wallet back about $400.

Not trying to sound like an ***, but I know plenty of people that have picked up 3-4 tenths by letting more experienced drivers make a pass in their truck. Practice that launch!

Im a happy nelson customer I would go with him if I were you it may cost a little more but he is more experienced and knows his tuff and know for his customer support. I would get a nice cam intake better exhaust the flowmasters suck as far as flow goes they sound good though. Long tube headers such as pacesetters will help out alot too. With headers tune intake better exhaust and some good driving you should be in the low 14s high 13s depending on how well it runs right now. Efans will help also cheap easy mod if oyu go ls1's and will give you better throttle repsonse and a few ponies. You should think about nitrous though man its so much fun.

See my 4.8 times in sig. That was with an FIPK, e-fans, 212/218 cam, free mods, 160* stat, and a raised rev limiter. No headers, no gear, no stickies, not even any tuning (other than the raised rev limiter.) That pass was w/ a 3.42 open rear end on 255/35/20's.

A properly setup, bolt-on 5.3 RCSB should easily hit 14's. I know of one bone stock 02 that did it off of the showroom lot.
