How do you tell a 5.3 from a 4.8 ?

Question How do you tell a 5.3 from a 4.8 ?

im going to buy a 5.3 for my truck but i dont know how to tell a 5.3 form a 4.8

Vin lookup. Dished pistons vice flat top pistons.

check the bore size, or check the inscription on the bottom right hand side of the front of the block. it should say which block it is

^ 4.8/5.3 have the same bore.

you need to check the stroke with a digital caliper-


crank has a part# also-

heads are the same on most of these 4.8/5.3

Easiest way is to check the glovebox RPO sticker.

4.8s up to 07 should show RPO code LR4, and post '07 should show LY2. On mine the engine code was in the bottom left quadrant of codes.
