How do you guys launch when racing your auto trannies?
I have a 03 GMC auto tranny 5.3 with 3.73s and the factory locker.
Anyway I am trying to figure out wether to launch in a lower gear, use the brake while gassing it, or just stomping on the gas.
Should I leave traction control on or off?
Anyway I would really appreciate the info. I want to find out the best way to get some low times.
Thanks!

I have some pretty crappy 60' times, but it's mainly b/c of the dog-leg rear end and low profile 20's. I'm assuming that you're running factory tires?
I have to launch off idle. I come up against the convertor as little as possible--no more than 600 rpms--or the truck just annihilates the tires! I roll into the throttle and go. I launch in OD...manually selecting 1st won't make the truck launch any harder. Also, I've found that the tow/haul mode should be left disengaged.
I would think that you could get better times with the traction control off, but try it both ways and see which is best for you and your driving style. You never know...

It all depends on where I am racing and what the traction conditions are. At a good preped track I can stall up around 1200 and nail it. Other wise I just preload the suspension a bit (around 800rpm) and roll into the throttle. Otherwise it is just a smoke show.
