Default How choppy/noticable of a idle should i have?

Ok, i really expected to have a choppy idle with my cam. I bought a cam off of a member of this board who said it was a lt4 hot cam. The specs are :

The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 279/287; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 218/228; and maximum lift with 1.6 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 525/525. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 112 degrees.

Now on every cam clip i have heard with similar duration has a real distinct choppy idle.. Mine sounds a hair more agressive then stock at idle but not much at all. The only difference between the cam clips i have heard and my setup is i have a 383 instead of a 350, would that be enough of a difference in engine size to tone it down? im just really confused because its not quite what i expected.. Also if it was the wrong cam my fuel trims would be off wouldn't they (got a mail order tune and gave them those cam specs) I got the cam from Fabricator on the board

It should.... Your lift it a little bigger than mine.... my duration was 212-218-522-529-114

You can definently tell theres a cam in there.... but only with the cut-out open.... with it closed it has the slightest lope.... I think on a 112 it should thump pretty good...IMOP

Hmmm, my idle is set at 750 and im running magnaflows with cats, so maybe thats part of the reason.. It sounds more crisp then idle but is still pretty smooth.. I mean most people question that i have a cam in it

Whats your idle set at? You could always turn it down for more chop.

a 383 will eat an LT4 Hotcam right up.....it's almost the same as putting an agressive cam in a 5.3 and 6.0...the 5.3 will idle choppy but the 6.0 will idle ALOT smoother, the extra cubes REALLY kill a choppy idle
