Default hot cam

Anybody put a LS1 Gm hot cam kit in a 5.3l? The part # is 12480033 from GM.

That's to much cam for a heavy truck,it might work with a moded SBRC truck with longtube headers,4.10s and a 3200 stall. With that cam, those mods and a 100 shot you could see low 12s in a light truck.

What cam would you suggest for a extended cab? Thanks for the opinions.

Try a 01 LS6 cam if you want to stay with a factory camshaft or a 212/218/114 Comp cam.If you want to be conservative use a set of 1.85 SLP rockerarms and LS6 springs with your stock camshaft.

trey, the hot cam would be fine for your 5.3, it wouldn't offer much gain on low end torque but it would offer great power from about 3500 all the way up. the LS6 cam is designed to make a small light aerodynamic car go very very fast TOP END, it is NOT designed to make a big heavy brick jump outta the hole like a rocket. the cam choice is totally your's but if you like the hot cam go with it. i'm running a 216/218 .535/.535 112 cam in my truck which i believe is more lift than the hot cam and my bottom end is great, much better than it was stock. red2k is the only member here to have ridden in my truck be he can tell ya about it. it hits hard initially and at about 3600 it pulls like a train.

Yeah his truck has more down low but mine runs stronger up top. I would tell you not to go with the hotcam unless you have a 3200 stall and gears. I lost more than i wanted down low with my cam. Too much Duration in the hotcam to be moving one of our pigs with out some help

I suggested the 01 LS6 cam 207/217.525/.525 116 as an inexpensive alternative to the GM Hot cam 219/228.525/.525 112.The LS6 cam will idle better, give better low and midrange performance and probably equal topend performance with stock heads. The Hot cam is just to much cam for a 4.8 or 5.3 in a truck.

Default what would be the difference

How would the 02 Z06 Cam differ from the COMP CAM Lift: .525/.532 Dur@.050: 216/220 LSA: 114

or the

Lift: .522/.529 Dur@.050: 212/218 LSA: 114

I think I know a little about cams, I just wanted to know what you guys would recommend in a 4.8

I already have the Z06 cam which I only paid $135 for, would it be worth it to sell it and spend the extra money on one of the COMPS, or not??

Thanks in advance
