Default homemade intake?

I just ordered my flexalite 295 fan from Scoggin Dickey out of Texas. They are AWESOME on price and service. Talk to Chris Jones. Shop anywhere and I gaurantee that he'll beat it $10-$20 everytime. He has for me anyway.

Anyway, I just did a search for custom air intakes and still did not get my question answered. Those of you that have electric fans, did ya'll do something with your air intake tube? I heard from someone that they made their own using sewage pipe?

The reason that I am asking this is because I have another oh,say,2-3-4 inches I guess more depth after I get my fan on? So I could really use some advice on a custom deal to get rid of that awfull sharp *** 90 degree at the throttle body. I also took my TB spacer off so I have more room.

Please give me any info that you can. Thanxs.

Check out my webpage. I have a pic of my custom tube there. I plan on wrapping it with heat reflective material soon.

JSmith, is that simply a 90 degree elbow and another slightly bent piece of what? just black pvc? It is not too thick to go over your throttle body intake? Do you have to thin out the end of the elbow to be able to make it flex enough to grab on the TB by the clamp pressure?

Check out your April '03 Sport Truck magazine on page 94. What do ya'll think about that "Spiral Flex" intake tube? It looks to maybe be reflective and would only have to have two clamps. Is this maybe a good option from what ya'll gather just by looking at it? I went to avanche.com but couldn't open the racing part for some reason. I'll try again later.

I made my own intake using a K&N off the shelf that was for some other make/model. I just measured the diameter of the MAFS and matched it up with a mongo huge conical unit. After yanking out the stock airbox, I clamped it to the MAFS and let it rest on a piece of high-density foam with a few ziptys here and there so it wouldn't rub any metal. It's blocked off from engine heat with a piece of flexible reflective material. It ain't pretty but it made a huge difference in power...especially above 3K rpm. Better gas mileage and throttle response as well. It looks like something you would get when NASCAR meets Buckwheat.

My intake tube consists of 4" dia. aluminum tubing, a 4" dia. rubber 45deg bend, and a 4" dia. rubber 90deg bend. I got all the parts from http://shop.airflowonline.com You need e-fans to make it work because of clearance issues though. I think I only spent $40 for everything. Like I said in my previous post I plan on trimming the bolts down and wrapping the tube with some sort of heat reflective material.

thanks guys

JSmith, I measured the MAS and it was 3 5/8 inch outside diameter and by throttle body was about 4 inches maybe a little less. I understand that I guess you use the factory rubber seal on the throttle body but how do you get the same 4inch to fit on the MAS?

JSmith, I just relooked at your pictures and I see that you have not have a straight shot to your mass airflow sensor. I have read in that post afew weeks ago about that intake guy from arizona that the weak link is that corrugated elbow that is attached to the MAS. Couldn't you have made it to bend a certain way to be able to bypass that corrugated elbow? I would really like to do that to mine. Do you think I would have to get something like that spiral flex to be able to achieve that or do you maybe have a reason that you are using your corrugated elbow?

As a matter of fact, I already have a set of Street Scene power mirrors all sanded up and ready to paint here at home right now. Your PM makes sense now. Thanks for letting me know though!
