Default Home made transmission jack

What's the best way to do this? I have 3 regular jacks to work with but I'm not sure what to use to balance it. I have heard of a block of wood but where exactly do I put it Thanks

The only time I have done this stuff is with a tranny jack. But I have seen a adaptor you can buy that will fit a floor jack and lifts the pan. If you use one of those and throw a chain or strap around it, it should work.

I took a 12x12 piece of wood and drilled a hole through the middle and used a bolt into the ecnter of my floor jack pad. It worked well until I was lowering my transfer case with it and the weight shifted and my jack fell over.

If I were doing it over again, I'd buy or rent a transmission jack.

I got one from Northern Tools a few years back. Not bad for the price of $120 or so... I'd get the best one for your budget. They sell that adapter too.
