Default Holley valve covers, Oil consumption?

Well I just wanted to post this to figure out what the root cause of my oil consumption issues were on two of my engine builds. I never had this issue before. But my 414 stroker is basically a 408 kit with forged pistons, scat rods and crank. I did not build the short block, but I have the spec sheet from a reputable builder. I’m somewhat confident that the consumption is not related to the ring gap or bearing clearances. Motor makes good compression and has 15k miles on it. The issue is thing literally drinks oil!. About a quart to two quarts every 3k. I’m thinking it’s due to the PCV setup Due to the oil in the intake.. the exhaust smells pretty potent at idle. Like a 2 stroke smell. I haven’t been driving the truck much until I get to the bottom of this. Before I get deep into the details on my PCV setup(which is fairly typical), Has anyone else installed the Holley valve covers and had oil consumption issues?

I also have the Holley tall covers on my Toyota pickup 370/turbo swap. I don’t have enough miles on the fresh build to determine if I’m having the same issue or not. I’m about to change the oil for the fourth time in 3500 miles. This PCV setup is a bit different W/ Ls6 valley cover and the suction side running to the air filter. I have had oil leaks and dip stick blowout issues from crank case pressure though. I’ve resolved the leaks, but still get the dip stick to blow out under extreme conditions. Still a new build, so I’m working out the bugs. I did notice only a little over 4 quarts in the drain pan after the last change(pan holds 5.5qt). Any thoughts?

I had the regular Holley valve covers on my previous motor and have the tall ones on my current stoker...no oil consumption issues at all. What PCV valve are you running? Are you using a catch can?

i was running a fixed orifice at first. Then moved over to a stock pcv valve. It plumbed as in line on the driver side VC. The passenger side VC feeds into the TB.

still no change

Yep...that's how mine is set up but with a MM catch can. Very little, 1/4 quart per month oil consumption.

from what i have read on the www most aftermarket VCs suck too much oil.
i have some holley's that hooked to the factory 5.4 truck pcv system puffed smoke at first start up.
i then added a plug and drilled a small hole in it, and that cured the puff at start up.
i am going to switch to the vented engine cover (i cant think what model engine) then use a catch can

I did try restricting the flow, but it caused the oil pan to leak oil and both valve covers started as well.

The catch can is filling up about a quarter cup after spirited drives. But it's still losing oil somewhere else. I'm going to check the exhaust.

The Holley valve covers aren’t restricted on the pcv tubes, just baffled. Install an orifice on the suction side. I think I used a 1/8” hole
