See sig for plans on a 28" radiator and I live in SC. The motor I purchased was a complete motor with accessories for 2k (2005 with 15k miles). You dont necessarily need the accessories.

I found a used 05 6.0 LQ4 with just under 30k on it for 1500 within driving distance of my house. Would there be any other part/cost concerns with the swap that I would have to worry about? You really think the 160 TStat would be enough? I'm heading to 29-Palms CA for the next year for a follow-on school, then hopefully SoCal after that. So I have a year worth of desert temps to worry about.

It is. If you already have a 4.8, you do not have to get the complete 6.0 engine. All that you're going to need is the block and heads. THAT'S IT. All of your current parts, covers, intake, oil pan . . . . ya ha ah will bolt over. Lots of parts are interchangeable. I bought a "rebuild-able" 6.0 long block with covers for $500. (complete long block, 317 heads, and all covers) If you end up buying a complete engine, you can always part out the unused parts later on.
cam - If you decide on a bigger cam, you're going to need springs rated for more lift. What kind/size springs all depends on your cam. A cam only motor would need some head work.
Cooling - the 28" will work, but if you're towing, and or desert like conditions, you're going to want the 34".

Ok so I just got back from a happiness/escort mission. I'm tired and I dont feel like spending a couple of hours reading, can someone please explain the difference between the extra options I have available for the 408 longblock at Texas Speed and Performance. I assume the different pistons affect the compression ratio but the rods or the gaskets/bolts or the difference in the cranks is beyond me. Thanks
