Flyer, have you run this cam, and how would it be with a stock converter, and 3.73 gears?

That 212 218 comp cam is a proven cam in the 5.3 trucks. Several guys have it and it usually gains over 30 HP and give good gains in the low end. It runs great on the stock tune also.

If I were going to install a cam in a 5.3 right now, I'd go with the newer comp grind 212 218 115LSA .558 .563 cam. A little more lift, a little more power, more aggressive lobes... I'm sure a reg cam truck that is being built to run hard at the track would want a bigger cam, but I'd run that comp 212/218 in my heavy excab daily driven Z71 without thinking twice.

That is what I run in my truck, although I have a blower which makes a ton of torque(388 ft/lbs at 2100) down low I really doubt if it would of lost anything down low anyways. I DID need a tune with mine (unless you want to stare at a SES light all the time) and has a nice lope at idle. It screams hard all the way to the limiter. I also heard that a 115lsa is supposed to make the cam a little more "lazy" thus me going with a 114lsa

Thanks for the reply BigTex. I want to still be able to tow my car. Would the newer cam still be good for towing? I'm also waiting for the in truck version of LS1edit, so I'm wondering how would the new cam run on a stock tune?

I think the new cam would idle a little smoother, make a little more power, and run pretty well on a stock tune. Of course, you'll need to get your shift points raised to take full advantage of the upper end power.

01 - ask Fast4.8 (greg) about the cam he had for sale. It was a 212 212 112lsa and .522 lift. The duration is good for your 4.8 and with the rockers, you'll have some big lift. Plus it was a good price for being never installed.
