Default Help me make my final decision

Hey guys, I've been trying to decide what to do as far as motors over the past week. I was thinking about buying this forged ls1 shortblock for 2400 shipped and getting some 5.3 stg 2 heads and a cam. By the time I'm done everything will equate to about 5 grand. I have 10 grand (that I got from graduation) to work with at the moment, 1.5k which is going toward body work/mods next week. So that leaves me with about 8 1/2 grand. The 5,000 dollar motor would leave me with just 3,500. My tranny is stock as of now, so it would just be a matter of time before it would blow. A built tranny would be another grand. I also need a few other little things that add up. Well here's my question, should i go the risky route and get the built ls1 or just stick with my 4.8 and put heads and a cam on it with a little spray, basically make a insane 4.8. The 4.8 route would be easier, and safer economical route. One more question, how would a 4.8 hold up with heads/cam/100 or 150 shot? I think I will end up just modifying my 4.8 IF the motor has a solid chance of holding up. I just can't see being stupid enough to blow almost all of my grad money on my truck, and have very little left, IF something did go wrong. Let me know, so I can get this stuff ordered This weekend. I also want to have some competition with 01Thunder's 4.8

that forged ls1 sounds pretty tempting. But if you want to save money jsut upgrade the 4.8 with cam and heads and do a bunch of boltons and stall. make sure you upgrade your tranny before you get to heavy in mods.

For the amount of money you are planning to spend, I think you'd be dissapointed with what that 4.8 will give you. They can definately be quick, but for $1200 you can have another 74 ci and a much more potent powerplant to start with.

LOL I have people gunning for me
just to give you an idea, I have about 10 grand worth of mods on the truck to get it here.
3,800 in the trans alone,
1,000 for the rear end,
an $800 dollar converter, and about
almost 3,000 in the motor and another couple of grand for misc stuff.
but this was just to give you a clue as to what it MIGHT take to ge you going on all motor.
now there is an easier and cheaper way to get quick, and thats NOS, but I would rather do it on all motor than do it with something I have to refill every couple of times I used the bottle.
it's up to you

I've got just over 11 in my truck prolly. I would say ... go straight for the big cubes. Get a 6.0 and punch it out .030. If the funds are there, get a 4" stroke crank with some nice rods and pistons. Top it off with a head/cam package and call it a day.

If you want to stick with the 4.8, blow it or spray it. I'd go the blown route if it were me since I'm not a fan of spray.

Thanks for the advice. My 3200 Yank should be coming sometime next week. Well as of now, I'm going with a 6.0 liter shortblock with h/c and spray. Basically once I find one that is in very good condition and at a good price I will pick it up. There hasn't been many 6.0 short or long blocks on the i-net lately, which has been my problem. Anyone know of any 6.0 shortblocks floating around in excellent condition? I would consider a long block w/o acc. if the price was reasonable. Thanks fellas!
