Default help me choose.

i can't make up my mind... 85 BBC 454 or 00 6.0? i know the 454 heads would be garbage. but with the money save not having to change many things over to drop it in, i could pick up a set of used heads. the 6.0 i would run the edelbrock intake so that's a good bit there plus the cam is about 3times the price of a 454 cam.

this will be going in my 83 chevy shortbed. it will be driven to and from the track, and occasionally to work. i'm thinking i would like atleast 500hp.

here is a vid of it now. with a vortec 350, and about 350hp.

Is that 454 goig to have to be torn apart and rebuilt? even a 6.0 will have trouble getting you to 500HP. especially with out power aders. it's sounds to me like you might jsut need to buy a high compression(11.5 to 1) 408 shortblock and slap some nice heads on their and see what you can do. So many ways to go, figure out more what you want and set more realistic goals. The 454 can put that off course, but their is going to be some parts that cost some $$ to get it up their.

i want the most hp for the cheapest price.the 6.0 with the edelbrock intake and ignition would be the same price as the 454 so inital cost is the same... i'm thinking a cam only 6.0 would make more power than a cammed 454 due to the 454 heads being a major restriction.

buying a 408 is out of the question. both motors would need heads for 500hp. so the costs are still similar.... i know what i'm looking for and i'm trying not to give to much info here to sway your opinions.

don go with the MS4, carb'd intake, get a LQ4 run 243 heads, use a .040 head gasket this will put you right around 10.9:1, use 1 3/4 headers, 3800-4k stall, use 410s and youll be a healthy truck. brian has alot of the parts you need

thsi setup will easily be close to 500bhp with a good carb setup

or ill sell you my LQ9 minus the LS6 and then you add your carb intake and etc and this is a proven setup...we can work on price cause you know were the money will go
