Default Help me buy a truck

I want a truck that will have the best potential to go fast. I assume the 5.3 motor is what I want and It should be a regular cab. What years are the best? Can I go with 98 and up? Any options that I need to get or things I need to look out for?

Actually, 99 and up have the new body style with the LS1 "type" GEN 3 motors. Most people like to start with a 2000 or up if they have the choice, as they have better PCM's and injector upgrades to start with, and they aren't really anymore money when you're buying "used" in the first place. Regular cab trucks are obviously much lighter, and seem to be the best platform for all out racing, but there are also many extended cab trucks around here that are fast also. Although the 5.3 is a good motor, and with a blower, turbo or nitrous have put up some good numbers around here, most wind up doing a swap to a 6.0 or even a 5.7 LS1, or at least wanting to. As traction is a big problem, some opt for the 4wd truck, although the 2wd's can be made to hook. I would look for a reg. cab 5.3 truck to start with if I were you.

I would go 99-up extended cab, short box, 2wd.

Looks good, with some extra room.

5.3 w/forced induction. built tranny. big slicks in the rear. skinnies in the front. ladder bars.

lots of tint. dark sunglasses.

99 5.3 for the cheapest price, you got potential there. Good luck!

If you are looking for something used, look for a 5.3L RCSB 02-up since they don't have EGR.

If you are looking for something new I would say the VHO. It is an ECSB but with the a 6.0L like the SS Silverado.
