with your old cam in... it would have been easier to insert the pen magnets.. its a little tricky.. have to rotate the cam and make sure all the magnets are on the lifters...

it sounds like you already got your old cam out? Maybe you need a stronger magnet... are these the big ones that lengthen out to like 6 feet or so? Thats what i used, didnt really have any problems.

Did you spin the cam several times once you took the rockers loose? This should get em to stay up.

keep spinning the cam shaft around and around while you are sliding the dowel through. I assume you are talking about a rod you are sliding from the front of the block towards the rear to hold the lifters up. I've never used the rod down the drilled holes but it sounds really simple. You should be able to engage the rod with each revolution of the camshaft.

i think i spun mine like 3 full rotations. i could have left the dowel rods out but its better to be safe than sorry. Spin it until they stay up!

What size are your rods, try a skinnier one for the side that wont go(drivers side I believe)

i got 3/8 and 1/4 inch rods. ive spun the cam like 100 times and the rods wont go thru. i was trying to get the pen magnet to pull the lifter up high enough to put the rod it but the magnet just pops right off.

i tried to use a 3/8" tube and it didnt fit. then i took 2 1/8" stainless steel tig filler rods and the fit right in. try something smaller like a 1/8" rod. that may be the problem but im not sure. Good luck man. i really hope you dont have to pull the intake cuz that would suck!
