Default Help connecting walbro inline pump

Just wondering if anyone could offer any install tips or pics on how to wire up the pump and where to tie it in at. Should it go before or after the filter and where should I provide the power from?

Cool

I put the in-line pump on the frame rail. I cut out a piece of the steel fuel line and spiced in the pump using neoprene fuel line meant for high pressure applications. I double clamped the line onto the steel lines using fuel line clamps of the correct diameter. The pump came with barbs and I put a single clamp on them. I cut the fuel line with a small pipe cutter. If you can cut before the filter and relocate it closer to the front of the truck on the frame rail. It means an extra cut and splice but I think it is worth it to have the filter after the pump. I plan to retro mine soon.

I bought a harness from Racetronix and it is very well made but needed some small modifications to suit my application. You will need to use a relay to switch the pump on and off with the ignition. I attached mine to the firewall near the brake booster. Run a power wire from the stud under the cover of the under hood fuse panel. Take the top off the panel and remove the corner fender brace near the hood hinge spring and take the box off the fuse panel. You will see a power stud near the brake booster side of the fuse panel. That is a good power source to the relay. Put a 20Amp in-line fuse in the line to the relay. Ground the relay on the stud on the firewall. Run a power line to the pump from the switched terminal of the relay and attach it to the in-line pump. Run a ground wire from the pump to the ground to the outside of the frame rail near the back of the front fender. Take a 3M slice and put it on the grey wire under the fuse panel cover. You will find the wire coming out the side of the panel in a wire cable next to the large wire cable going to the intake manifold. The grey wire is the relay switch wire for the fuel pump relay and will activate the in-line pump when the in-tank fuel pump is activated. Run a wire from this tap to the in-line pump relay to switch the relay.

That should do it. Good luck

Not that I can think of. You might be able to get it to work but never quite the way it should. The pump will have a high draw so it should be on its own circuit. You dont want a fuse to blow at the wrong time under high load (WOT). The other problem is getting it to start and stop when the in-tank pump does. If you put it on a circuit when the key is on but the engine is not running then the pump will run continuously. Now the pump runs for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel rails and then shuts off. You might find a circuit that is only hot when the engine is running but then the in-tank pump will have to pump fuel through the in-line pump when it is not running. I am not sure what if any problems this may cause.

It is not that hard to run a relay. Get the store you buy the relay from to explain how to attach the wiring to it. You need a 30/40 amp relay.
1.) 12-14 gauge wire from a Power Source to relay with a 20A in-line fuse to relay terminal ??
2.) 16-18 Gauge Ground wire for relay to relay terminal ??
3.) 16-18 Gauge Switch wire to grey wire to relay terminal ??
4.) 14-16 Gauge power wire to pump from relay terminal ??

Look at the bottom of the relay. Most will have symbols by each terminal that explain what that terminal is meant to be used for.
