Default Help choosing cam.

I was hoping someone could help me choose a cam for my 03 Z71 Tahoe. Right now its stock except for the Magnaflow muffler. I am running the stock tire size on the stock wheels. I am not looking to set any records but would like some more POWER out of my tow rig. I am not planning on changing heads or verter. So I would like something cheap with good street manners. TIA.

I have the same truck and will be installing a compcam 206/212 shortly. All my research on this site and others told me to stay right around these #S for best low end power without a stall being added. Also produces best low end
power for towing. You will need to change the springs and pushrods but you can keep the stock rockers.

.515/.522 lift with a 112LSA. I'm using 1.75 comp rocker arms so the lift will be closer to .530/.537. The 112LSA will give it a mild lope and move the powerband closer to the low end.

Hey Doobie let me know when you do the swap. I'd like to know what kind of difference you felt. What springs and pushrods would I need.

The cam in my sig would be ideal for a tow rig that requires power right off idle all the way to 6000 RPM.

Springs depend on cam lift. Most performance cams have a smaller baseline circle by .050" so I"ll be using 7.400 push rod length with new cam. Check out compcams.com website.
