Default Help with a 92 5.7 TBI

I just bought a 92 5.7 TBI SCSB step side 5 speed and although I know it is not my 6.0 02 this truck is slow. I have never moded a tbi motor and want to know what ideas you guys might have to make it run better. I do not want to kill the gas mileage to bad and I need it to be dependable. What options are available for the truck as far as heads, cam, and intake? I have some old style heads but I do not want to put a carburetor on it. What about a TPI conversion? or a old style vortec conversion?
