HELP! 2008 silverado 1500 lost oil pressure!
#12
When my oil pump went out (relief valve stuck open) I first heard the lifters ticking, so I looked down at the gauge and almost sh*t myself.
What do you mean the mechanical readings were the same? The same when it was running low, or when it was normal?

how many psi is the normal readings? my lq4 reads 20-25psi at idle when its warm but it has an oil cooler...
btw from where do you read the oil pressure? in my mechanical gauge i read it from where the original oils pressure sender was... others says to read it from above the oil filter...

when i took the readings with the mechanical i did them in the same spot as the electric sensor and it was reading the same as the dash gauge.
I had another truck with a ly6 and i was having oil pressure problems with that one. When i put a mechanical behind the intake it would top out at around 40psi and idle around 15 psi hot. When i put the gauge at the oil port next to the oil pump on the left side of the engine i would have normal oil pressure. So its important to check for pressure at the port behind the intake
I pulled the motor out and the #3 cam bearing had spun out, put a new set of bearings in, put the engine back it and it was back to normal.
