Default To hell with the Ol' V6

Well guys, I'm feed up with the V6 in my truck. I have always been a fan of SBC and will be that way till I die. So it is final. I am going sometime this weekend and trading in my truck on one with a V8. In my quest for a new truck recentley i found a 2005 Dodge Ram RCSB with the 5.7L Hemi. It is at a good price and has low miles. Is this a good truck to start with, to make in to a steet/strip truck? Or are the mods to expencive. Like i said, I am a thru and thru Chevy guy, but this seems like a deal, Starting off stock with 345hp. Or should I tell the dealership to suck it and go for a Chevy with a 5.3/6.0??

I think i have decided to do a V8 swap instead. So if you have a complete 5.3 for sale please let me know. Also I will need the engine wiring harnes, motor mounts(both frame and engine), and fuel lines and clutch and flywheel out of a 4.8. Then with a cam, headers, and some port and pollish work I should have a pretty bad truck. Any sugestions welcome. Post them or pm me, thanks.

at this point there isn't really any tuning options available for HEMI trucks. They are no doubt great trucks, but their numbers are a bit deceptive. The 345 rated at the factory equates to about 270 rwhp. In stock form the single cabs run around a 15.1-15.3 which is about .3-.5 of a second faster than the 5.3L silverados are.

The biggest difference between the 2 though is the aftermarket. You can build a 13.5 second silverado N/A for under $3500 plus the cost of the truck itself.

All in all, the hemi is a good truck, but they get expensive real quick with modding and the aftermarket just isn't near what chevy has.

So if you plan to keep it relatively stock go with a hemi, if you want a 12 second truck, go with a silverado. That's my personal opinion.

I agree with that assesment. A Hemi can be made to go fast, but usually at much more expense with less options than a Chevy...

You could just keep your truck and swap in a 6.0L, that would most likely be cheaper than buying a new truck.

no dodge!!! keep your chevy and put a 6.0 or something in it...cheaper than buying a new truck and less embarassment than buying a dodge. I traded my last truck off for a dodge, 2wd quad cab, hemi...had it for a day and said **** that. i went and got my gmc back. that hemi was a joke

I would get a nice 4.8 with good/body paint and high mileage for a good price and swap a 6l in it or just get this truck https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=396551

"Seems" like a good deal just like the horsepower rating ! Dodge trucks don't hold there resale value and get crappy gas mileage. A buddy of mine recently traded a 2005 Daytona with the Hemi for his 2007 Classic V-Max. He loves his new truck. Stay with GM, better yet keep your truck and throw a 6L in there.

The motor swap thing has crossed my mind. But i do not have the budget like i thought i was going to have. So if i am going to get a V8, I will just have to get a new truck. I really like my truck also. But a year away from my beast, and this site, has me beggen for some horsepower. So I figure I will trade my truck and start a new. I mean a stock 5.3 is beter than a stock 4.3 anyday in my books.
