Default Heads and Intake Question

A friend of mine has a complete LY6 motor out of an 08 2500. Originally I was considering buying the entire motor from him but now I'm thinking of maybe picking up just the heads and intake manifold. Not sure if it would really be worth it or not so I figured I would ask you guys before going through with anything. Wish I could pick up the whole motor and start a fresh build for when the LQ9 decides to croak but from what I've read so far swapping in a newer motor like the LY6 is kind of a pain in the butt. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Anyone? Apparently these are the l92 heads. So I'm guessing with these heads, intake and 90mm throttle body accompanied with a cam swap I should see some decent gains. I'd still like some third party opinions though so please, anyone with more expertise than me throw in your two cents. Thanks.

i think it has the vvt.. so u should disable it when u do a cam swap. thunder racing has the vvt delete kit.. also u do have the L92 heads.. not sure about the intake size the stock throttle body is 87mm.. an 90mm LS7 should fit..

u could install the fast 102 LSXR intake LS3 version.. but u have to change ur injectors as well as fuel rails for it to fit maybe shave a bit of the water pump

I'm not wanting to use the whole motor, just heads and intake and put them on my lq9.

If you use the whole engine, you'll have to get a converter box like the one that Lingenfelter offers if your truck is older than 07 since you have a 24x reluctor on the crank and the new ones have a 58x reluctor. Swapping the heads, intake, and TB is a nice upgrade though, especially with a nice matched camshaft. Search both here and the Internal Engine Mod Section for "L92" and you should find some nice results

well after reading some more about the swap im definitely wanting to just use the heads intake and throttle body...only problem is my buddy doesnt want to part out the motor for what i want or trade me any parts from my truck so it looks like im stuck either buying the whole engine and swapping what i need over then selling the rest or looking for all the parts elsewhere. If i use the L92 heads, LY6 truck intake and throttle body will anything else need to be changed over? Im not certain but i read somewhere on here that it also may have 40lb injectors, thatd be a nice little treat if its true. Thanks for all the input fellas! Keep it coming.
