Default Heads - holes

Picked up an lq4.
the heads have threaded holes just on top of the manifolds that are not used ... Why?

Is this just pretapped stuff for running different manifold/header configurations ?

Enquiring minds

Heads are universal left to right on the LS engine. Typically the dipstick tube bolts to one of them on the right side of engine. The hole location may change depending on configuration.
