Which heads and Head gaskets?
#22
I am kind of wondering the same thing. I recently purchased 243 heads, and a TSP 220R cam, have a '05 and up 5.3 block, stock bore. People are telling me that in order to get my compression back up I'll need to mill the heads .030", and get some LS1 gaskets, and I'll be fine. Bottom end will be staying factory with flat top pistons. Putting new bearings and rings in. Will I be safe running an LS1 head gasket, and not doing any ARP hardware since it will only be around 350-420 hp.
Having the guy that I bought the heads and cam from will be porting and polishing, and doing a 3 angle valve job on them after I mill them for around $450
Taking my block and heads to Henson Racing Engines, since they are close to me, and currently have my buddies 408 motor there again. $80 for milling the heads and cleaning them up a little bit more. Said they'd check my block, magna-flux for cracks, and also hone the cylinder walls free of charge.
Basically my full question is. What head gasket would ya'll recommend I run? Co-worker basically has the same setup in his c-10 with LS swap. 5.3 block, 243 heads milled .030", but just running a fel-pro MLS style "factory" gasket, except his build is fully built/forged a lot larger cam, and lots of nitrous.
He says just run a factory style MLS gasket. or Should I just let Henson Racing Engines take care of that part of it for me?
