Default Heads and Cam

Sup guys. Got some questions. I wanna do a heads/cam install on my tahoe. this is what i'm thinking, but i'd like to get some opinions:

cam with 590 ish lift on intake/exhaust and 360 ish duration on a 112
pushrods
roller rockers
valvesprings
valves
z06 heads (will they fit?)

Thanks.

Ben

ZO6 heads (LS6 heads) are a direct bolt on. You need to Check out TSP's or Thunder racings cams. Most popular I'd have to say is the TR220 or TR 224, you will only need Comp cam 918 Valve springs, some hardened pushrods. No need for roller rockers. If you're doing heads, TSP has a head cam combo kit and their heads that come with the kit are fully assembled with 2.07 Intake valve, they flow around 300CFM at .600 and are assembled with dual PRC valvesprings or a choice of comp 918s. Hope this helps.

Not sure if tahoes have a 5.3 of 6.0 if its a 5.3 you will loose power because of compression loss without milling them.

They are offered in both 5.3 or 6.0 I believe. Yes a CP loss will occure, TSPs are 5.3 heads, if your motor is a 6.0 you'll gain about a point in CP with these heads. If you have a 5.3 and put LS6 heads., you'll lose maybe .2 in CP, Isn't it 64CC chamber Vs. 61cc? Yeah, that sounds right.

If i'm going to lose HP from z06 heads, what would be a propper head to go with for this truck? Should I keep stock heads and port them?

Thanks,
Ben

Most of the ported 5.3 heads offered ready to go have been worked out to fit the larger bore LS1s and have bigger valves installed. Put these on a small bore 5.3 and you'll end up with shrouded valves which hurts flow.

My suggestion is get a spare set of 5.3 heads and have them ported by one of the sponsors here. Make sure that they know they are going back on a 5.3.

Or you can have some unshrouding done in the cc then put larger valves in thats what I did but I only went to 2.00 on the intake, left exhaust the same. LPE did a buildup of a 5.3 where they used larger intake valve car craft nov 2004 all on a 5.3 of course it had a huge cam and fast intake but it produced over 450 around 6600 rpm. The valve seats cant be opened more than .1 more or you have to go with different seats. If you dont mind running 93 and staying NA I would have them mill around .035.

Are you sure about that duration number Im running a 222 cam and that fairly large. Is this your daily driver

I think a tr224 would fit the bill well for your app. Comp 918 springs are good too.
