Here are some discussions on headers:

the other guys headers

shorties vs. LT's

bassani headers

There are many more you can search in the archive. In general the best bang for the buck are the mid-lengths the least invasive and lowest performing are shorties and the LT's are pricey but have the greatest potential on 400+ rwhp vehicles.

I just installed some gibson stainless steel shorties on my silverado. Remove that poor excuse of a flat washer that some GM engineer designed for the steering linkage. It wacks the header pipe when you turn the steering wheel after you put your headers on and the instructions didn't mention this. Replace it with a plain jane round flat washer. When you see this crazy looking thing you'll say that guy had way too much idle time on his hand at the GM factory. It took me a while to figure out it was just a washer because the way it is shaped it looks like it has to do some REAL important job. Actually it is just a flat washer AND lock washer combined into one.

I have Gibson shorty's on my truck and I noticed little gain with them. They also look like crap, rust. In the near future, ASM's are coming my way. Before I do that, I want to get a before/after dyno between the long tubes the the short tubes.

kent.

I needed to adjust the pipes because there was not enough room to weld the flanges to the cats. I also put some heat resistant material on my transmission lines because it was close to one of the header tubes. The ASM's are one of the better ones you will find out there!
