Header coating??

Question Header coating??

Okay...looking at some stainless headers and was wondering if I should have them coated or because they are stainless they'll be fine?? Anybody from the salt belt run uncoated stainless headers?? Lets hear it..needed or not needed??

depends on stainless, but none the less, where you live, I suggest stainless, or coated for sure.

With the stainless headers you should be fine with the elements as they are, but if you're looking to lower underhood temps the coating will help that. I've run stainless exhaust components for years through New Jersey winters and they've held up great. You may end up with some surface rust, but the header will stay solid as long as the ss is of good quality, as far as I know.

I agree. The stainless should be fine but i think if your going to get them you mine as well get the coating...just another protective coating for the rust and it will keep the Under Hood temps down. Just my .02.

The headers are 409 stainless which I know has a higher carbon content than 304...as long as they are going to stay solid and only have some surface rust then I think I'll be okay without the coating...I mean you can't get any more rusty than these stock manifolds.

Thats one of the reasons I do not want to coat them...the discoloration due to the heat looks way fkn cool.

Plus coated headers are a pain in the *** to install. One little scratch and youll be fixating on it forever.
