Has anybody put a Z06 cam in their 5.3?
#1
I am interested in installing a Z06 camshaft in my 06 Silverado 5.3 and I was wondering if anybody has done this? Do I need to change the valve springs to the Z06 ones also? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

One of the local boys installed a ZO6 cam and springs in a 05' 5.3L auto truck with long tubes, off road Y pipe, CAI, Magnaflow catback, ASP pulley and John Weeks Tuning. It put 322rwhp & 312rwtq SAE through a set of chrome 24's. You know it'd put down a lot more power without those 24's. Oh and it doesn't have a stall.

That cam was designed around a 3100lb car with a close ratio 6 speed trans. Even in the Corvette where you have an extra 21 cubes the LS6 isn't very strong below 4k rpm. Extra weight, wide ratio transmissions, and less cubes make the cam not so great for a truck.

Thats the problem, its not very streetable because the power doesnt come in till way late in the RPM range.
Like Zippy stated, it just wasnt desgined for a big heavy truck.
I5M5, just because it made good peak power doesnt mean its a great cam
The LS6 cam just makes its power too high. And that truck isnt going to be very fast in the 1/4 on a stock stall with that setup.
I've had the cam in my 5.3L and wasnt impressed with it.

Awesome cam, runs great and sounds awesome!
