Gutting cats
#1
Ok, I've seen alot of threads on gutting cats. Should I buy free flowing cats or gut mine? Never gutted one. Is it easy or do I have to reweld? Will it effect the o2's, and what kind of gains should I expect? And last but not least, will I still past the smog test?

You can get o2 Sims for the check engine code set off by the rear o2 sensors. That will take care of that.
Im trying to decide if i want to gut mine and have a pipe welded down the middle inside the cats or if i should just do away with the casing and all and order the Pacesetter Y-pipe when i order my LT's.

Yea i guess thats true! Since they just plug the little monitor thing into your PCM outlet under your dash, if it reads all clear, it passes! I forgot about that. Its only once the vehicle is 7+ years old or something like that where they start putting the little tester in your exhaust pipe to actually test how much smog is coming out.

in texas 96+ cars are only plugged into the obd port. the guys that inspect my truck knew i didnt have cats or egr and their only concern was if i was throwing codes. i also had to roll down my windows
i even did it with the cutout open so i was running straight longtube headers. they didnt give a ****
