Default Guttin The Cats?

Ok so having researched it a bit I am thinking that the general concensus for my exhaust, behind my Other Guys headers, is going to be 4" pipe through a magnaflow or something similar. I have my Other Guys on the way as we speak. I can't dream of leaving the stock cats on the truck because that would kill the advantage of the 4" pipe so my question is this. If I eliminate or weld through the cats at this time that will likely throw a code right? With that in mind will it actually affect the performance of the motor until I can afford a tune to compensate or is the main problem just the little light on the dash? I just don't want to harm anything while I am saving the $$ for the tune? What do yall think of high flow cats? Is it better to just eliminate them? I live in a small town so I am not worried about inspections etc... I have the hook up on all that.

Well the performance when you take off the cats is you will loose some bottom end but gain up high. My question is why are you doing a 4 inch exhaust? our motors don't need anymore then a 3 inch which is why they come from the factory. Even if you have a 408 then I could understand. Also if your going to take the cats off you will get alot of popping at 2000rpm until 3500rpm. that's why I went with true duals. taking them off wont hurt anything but yes it will have a light go off but it's no biggie.

Cool thanks for the tip
I just kind of like the bellow you get from the 4" pipe and I have always been a fan of wide open minimal restriction but I will take into consideration what you said about the 3" More or Less 4" won't hurt anything though will it?

these engines need back pressure that's all their is to it, but remeber it's your truck and you can do what ever you want. ASlso remeber the 5.3 are totally different and will sound different then the 350 and anything else out their.

4" is an overkill! 3 inch on a naturally aspirated engine is still an overkill. THis is of course assuming you're doing duals. I just ran 2 1/2" on my truck, and it's plenty. My cats are gutted BTW.

Gutting you're cats will not make a difference on a relatively stock truck. In fact, I wouldn't gut them on a relatively stock truck if it were my choice. I gutted mine because I knew I would be putting my blower back on the truck.

I hope that gave you some insight as to what to do.
