Gotta HPP3 today.....

Kinda dissappointed to be honest. I was expecting a little more I guess. I mean, I wasn't expecting a 50 shot of dope or anything but I would have liked to have felt SOME difference. The only difference I can tell is the shift points are higher VERY slightly more firm. Powerwise, it feels the same. So much for the 22hp gain eh? L O L!. It is kinda cool to calibrate the speedo and take off the speed limiter. I went with the +4+8+3 shift point adjustments but I had to go back and raise the rev limiter to 6000 to keep it from tapping the limiter on the 1-2 shift. I will play with the shift points at the strip this sunday and hope for some reduction of ET. I definetly need a shift kit in this slush box.
When you other guys put in the Hpp3, did you "feel" any difference in power or shift firmness?
BTW I used the tuning for 93 octane and a 160 stat. Later fellas

You don't really feel a difference with the HPP3. Its hard to notice 3-5 tenths with the butt dyno anyway......but the higher rev limiter and the shift point settings are what really make the difference IMO, not the HP power gain it claims.....

Hey DIno, what did you se the rev limiter to? I set mine at 6k and it seems to be hitting it RIGHT as it shifts. Guess I will go down to +3 on the 1-2 shift. Its hard to tell if its shifting harder or just slightly tapping the limiter as it shifts. Anyone set the limiter at 6100-6200 rpms yet?

I didn't feel any difference. The only added shift firmness I felt was when I am driving around slow (doesn't happen very often). Other than that the only thing I can tell a difference with is the added mph on the shifts. Today I drove my roommates truck. It is only about a week old. Same truck as mine except without bolt-ons. I can tell a big difference in acceleration between his and mine.

Alan, +5 +12 +0, or +5 +11 +0, limiter @ 6200, You'll see where your 300 dollars went....
Big J and I have the same settings and gears, except I have +12....and yes, 2nd gear is lethal.......nothin like watchin the competitor drop back while in 2nd at 5800.....
Alan, you goin to the track this Sunday? I may go, looks like 50% chance of rain tho....

There is a definite increase in the power band. I dyno'd my 01 GMC stock tuning and hpp3, only gained 4hp peak (5300rpm)but over 22hp around the 4000rpm range.

Yeah Dino, I am going to the track sunday night if the weather holds out. Problem is, even if it doesn't rain it will be 90%+ humidity which can distort the potential gains of the HPP3. I am gonna set my limiter to 6200 in the morning. With the +4 on the 1-2 its definetly "tapping" the limiter at 6k right before the shift. Will try going up to +11 on the 2-3. Got it at +8 right now. Thanks for the tips fellas.!!
BTW, If I gained 22 hp in the mid range I would be VERY happy with that. Help pull this boat to the 330' a little quicker.
