Mine has been ticking since day one...sounds like a lifter to me, but it keeps on running.
As for your rough idle, if you have an exhaust leak, that could cause both the ticking noise, and give the O2 sensor on that bank a false reading.
Other things to check:
Clean the throttle body
Spark Plugs
Wires
Vacuum leak
Internal engine problem (burnt or sticking valve, broken valve spring, etc.)
Fuel filter
Fuel pressure regulator (Not sure what year your truck is and how many miles it has)...but if you have an FPR, it will be in the middle of the driver's side fuel rail. Check it with the engine off by pulling the vaccum hose off it and checking for the presence of fuel. If fuel is there, or even a heavy fuel odor, the fpr is shot and needs to be replaced.
There's a bunch of different things that can cause a rough idle, I just threw a few common problems and ideas out to ya.

Forgot to mention that...you might even notice a spark arcing from the plug or wire to another ground if that's the problem. Like Dave mentioned, that should throw a misfire code though.

I would say it could still be piston slap because i have noticed a piston on one side of the enginecan resonate to the other side
Sounds far fetched I know but thats what happened to my truck
I kept hearring the noise on the pass side and two pistons on the drivers side were replaced
The noise did eventually come back and now i just deal with it till i can afford my 408 long block
