Ok drove it home yesterday, IT IS ( drum roll please ) a 04 carbon metalic GMC Sierra 2500HD CrewCab 4x4 (8.1 w/allison ) I wasnt going to get an 8.1 but it was the only crew left and the manager gave it to me 1000 under invoice ( and gave me a job lol ) so anyway guess what will have to see what STS can do for an 8.1 down the line when i get extra money. unfortunetly i have the Bose system which is goint to make my life harder but i think ill ask this here since everyone will see, i know the new radios are attached to the data bus system now and ive heard the bose sys in this truck doesnt use an amp but the HU power ( 6disk HU ) so not sure which of the harnesses i would use to get a set of preouts if anyone can help?

I almost got an 8.1/Alli before I got my old '99 Z71 back in '01. It was a maroon CCSB 4x4 4.10:1 gears. It was a beast. Mad torque, fun to drive, get squirley if ya get on it turning, etc.
You need to mod that bitch up! lol. I got this chart from K&N's site a while back, seems believeable. It was dynoed in the same gear and same day. If you can muster ~15rwhp from that...
The stock cam appears to wheeze out like at 4500rpms like my F150. A FAT cam in there would kick ***.
TOG headers! Mad power!
Oh ****, and a tune too...they have TqMgt in them! LOL I can't believe that either. I wonder how low the ignition timing is?
If you can make it breathe better it will increase it's efficiency then economy too.

yeah I can feel how bottled up the motor is, with a cam in there i bet it would be sick, anyone know where i can find the real specs on the motor? ( cam, compression ect ect )
PS is the compcams 8100 the only ones? those lift numbers look pretty weak for a BB
also the stock exhaust looks pretty big...how big is it???? plus this thing is QUITE, i wonder how much that muffler is choking it.

See you've got just shy of 500 cubes so a cam like a 242/250 (@ .050), .530 114LSA prolly wouldn't be too crazy. It'd prolly make power to 5500-6000.
It's 9.1:1 comp, 4.25x4.37, like 330hp/450tq Iron block/heads. SEFI. Ummm...hyd roller cam.
Cam is prolly very tiny. Like 198/208 or so. Look at that dyno, it falls off at like 4200rpm! lol The one in my F150 is a 187/193 .420/.440 114LSA and it pulls to about 4500rpm only.
If you can cruise 60-70mph your economy shouldn't be too bad. Just try not to speed about is all. There's a LOT to be gained by just making that monster breathe.

I dunno if it's motor specific or not. It could have a different firing order. I'd bet a cam company could tell ya for sure. You're gonna make some mad power with a cam.
Yup, iron heads! I bet they weigh over 100lbs! lol Someone makes a set of aluminum ones, but they cost a grip! Like $2800.
I'd mess with heads later. First I'd focus on a tune (get rid of that TqMgt, it's not needed...not like that Allison can't take it). Then an intake setup. And some TOG headers. I'd do a cam after the rest of the mods.
One member here picked up over 1 sec in the 1/4 mi with a Tune and the Ghetto homebrew intake.
Hell, without a cam I'd bet you could make 500hp at the flywheel easily.

The SS comes stock with the Bose system and amp. Come onto the SilveradoSS site and ask questions about what harnesses, etc..that guys are using. I'm sure someone will have the answer there, if not here. Congrats on the new truck.

I can't post up form work or I would tell you exactly which pieces you need to add a new head unit to that system. There are actually 3 pieces. 1 to keep the databus system connected right. 1 to keep the door chimes and another if you wanna keep onstar. LOL
i will try to look it up when I get there and post back.
