Im definitly not an expert on cams, but i thought that most chose to have more of a wider split between intake in exhaust(like 6 to 10 degrees), and a somewhat high lsa, i could be wrong though. I guess it really wont make that much difference in the end.

They dyno'd a STOCK LS1 at 402hp (398 tq) at the crank, even tho it was rated at 345hp. I see plenty of F-Body guys putting down big Dyno numbers with cam only or heads and cam set-ups. I'm not sure but I doubt any of the LQ9's would dyno at 402hp (at the crank) and aren't they supposed to have as good if not better heads, and a simillar cam. The couple guys around here with LS1 swaps seem to running hard with very little mods other then the swap. Just my .02. Even still, I'm not positive I would trade my 6.0L for a 5.7, that's why I said "at times" I wish I would have gone that route. Hell, at times I wish I would have left the damn truck alone.

I honestly don't think you can compare what an LS1 does mod for mod to what us truck guys see mod for mod. We have much more drivetrain loss on average and less compression to boot.

IMO the LS1 isn't a magical motor compared to the 6.0L or even 5.3L. With same mods and same compression the 6.0L should make more power under the curve and peak than a 5.7L. The only negative factor is weight but if you are going FI with big power then I would want the cast block over the aluminum anyway.

Also keep in mind that some of the BS you see on this board is not what you would typically see in real world applications. I see guys here running a supposedly stock car with a couple bolt-ons and a giant pixie dust enhanced cam put down 440rwhp.... Not gonna happen on a real world application without dyno tricks, balanced/blueprinted motor, lightweight everything and on the edge tuning. Just my opinion.

I'm no expert on the inner workings of the motors, and I can't give good info on the 6.0L since I don't have one, but I LOVE my TR224'd LS1. Torque is excellent, pulls hard up top, and still pulled down 18mpg in mixed city/highway driving. And I'm not easy on my truck at all.

I can't say that the 5.7 > 6.0, but I'm extremely happy with my LS1.

Well I finally tore into the 4.8 and one of the pistons had a chunk of alum. missing from the side and the ring was even showing. Just wondering how much clearance is there suppost to be between the piston and the cylinder wall? There was over 35 thousands clearence between the wall and the piston on mine I know this is way to much and it was not on just one but all the pistons? If i get a chance I will take some pics.
