Talking Good race, & also some HP/TQ questions!!

Hey guys,

Last night I finally raced my rival.

His 01' 5.3 4x4 3.73 G80 RCSB with 285/75/16 w/ alum. rims
K&N Filter
Spark Plugs
Tornado
TB Bypass
True Duel Flowmaster Series 40 Exhaust
Granatelli MAF
His stock #'s: 285Hp/325Tq

vs.

My stock #'s: 255hp/285Tq
My Stock 99' 4.8 RCSB open diff. 2wd 3.42 with 285/50/20's and shackles
Peice of crap Flowmaster cat back with an exhaust leak
Freshly Rebuilt tranny with vette servos
Rollpan

sorry for so much detail, but I figured it was important.

OK, the first race...
I spun for about 30ft. and when I caught my front bumper was at his door, & that's how it stayed the whole race. (1/4 mile)

So I said rematch...
I caught traction and pulled ahead with his front bumper a few feet from my rollpan then he started to gain on me a little by little and right at the finish we were equal. But if the race would have went on longer than a 1/4 mile he would have won.

Sorry for the novel.

MY QUESTION IS...
Will a custom tune make enough of a difference for me to beat him. Also my intake is 106,000 miles old and probably pretty dirty, would a MAC intake w/ tube help much. (I know these are little mods but I have little money right now)

Thanks,
Nick

A custom tune will help you out. I know it made a pretty big difference in my truck. A custom tune will probaly knock off around .4-.6 tenths off your time from what I have seen.
I don't know anything about the MAC intake. Maybe somebody else will chime in.

Nick, get a tune that should be the first thing you do it will help amensley, also intake imo is not worth it just clean it up. and run some sea foam through your motor, then depending on your $$$ situation i know you said you dont have much but pick up a tb stall and give him hell.

or if you mean CAI yes its worth it easy thing to fab yourself instead of paying 150+ for a k&n or something similar. just need a 4'' 90 a 4" 45, some 4" tube. and a few worm clamps and your in business. check out air flow systems.com. thats where i got mine from.

Would a tune still be worth it if I still want to run 87 octane (reg unleaded).
also..
What is Sea Foam, and what are the benefits?

Thanks,
Nick

sea foam is like three dollars from advanced it just cleans out your motor can use it in the intake, gas oil. willl clean up sticky parts etc. and anyway you get a tune will be worth it youll be surprized just remove your tm.
