Thanks guys. I'm thinking the 3.73s are going to stay in a while, due to the fact that I just put them in a few months ago. I will go ahead and get the T/A girdle. Seems like a pretty popular mod.

How would you guys rank this install on a 1-10 difficulty range. Is it something that can be done at home, or should I just carry it to someone and let them worry about it? Thanks again.

If you are talking about the complete job, it can be a tad complicated. A complete posi unit is a little different then just installing a ring and pinion. With the ring and pinion install, the spacers will remain the same, and the backlash will stay as it was. When you change the whole posi unit (carrier), you will need to check the back lash and shim it until you get the desired amount of backlash, I believe 8/1000's is a good number. Also, you may as well install new carrier bearings and such while your at it. You probrobally don't have a dial indicator and/or some of the other tools you'll need. I'm sure others will say "go for it", do it yourself, etc. But you "might" want to take it to someone who has done them before.

Sounds like great advice to me. I would rather leave it to someone that does it for a living. It will definately help me sleep better at night knowing I didn't screw something up that I would pay for later. Thanks again.

Have any of you guys tried the Eaton Electronic locker?... and whats your opinion on this system. From what I understand this this gives you complete 100% locking differential. Heres a link

for difficulty, i would give it an 8. with 10 being the hardest. at 1st i was going to pay someone, then i decided to do alot of research and do it myself. the hardest part is getting the rear rotors off of the e-brake shoes. also a very difficult part is getting the shims into place. this probably was the most involved mod i have done to my truck. i did't do the TC, i payed for that to be done. removing the open differential is easy. trying to get the closed diff with the shims in at the same time was tricky. i'd do it again if i had to.

everything you listed for supplies sounds about right:
- posi
- carrier bearings (will have to take to a shop to be pressed on)
- adjustable shim kit (i reused the ones that were already stock on the truck)
- 3 qts of gear oil
- 8.5 10 bolt GM gasket
- torque wrench
- threadlock
- dial indicator (you might be able to get by without one since shimming might be same of stock, i used one though)

keep the 3.73's. with 4.10's and a 3000 stall TC, you will get no traction. plus gas mileage with go down

contact LS1 tech member AGREIF. he has a great website for the posi install. he helped me out alot

I heard that it was not the best choice for a performance application. Maybe someone else can chime in who has first hand experience using that unit.

I'd pay to have it done. I got half way through mine and decided this wasn't for me, so I half assed it back together and trailered it to a shop to have it done.

I don't think I would do it if it came up again either. I went through 2 sets of gears cause they didn't do it right the first time. I would rather have that on someone elses back, and not mine.

I hear you on that one. I will happily give my money to someone to take the burden off of me.

[QUOTE=BADMOFO]I'd keep the 3.73. I think anymore gear would just make more traction problems, especially with the short lower profile tires that you run.

Me too.
